BATARD MONTRACHET

The production surface of batard-montrachet are 11.40 acre from Puligny and Chassagne-montrachet.

The villages of Puligny-Montrachet and Chassagne-Montrachet have in sharing Montrachet and Bâtard-Montrachet. Knight on Puligny as well as Welcome, Criots on Chassagne. They are the most Southern Grand Crus of the Côte-d'Or, between Meursault (in the North) and Santenay (in the South).
Appeared to the middle Ages, initial work of the Cistercian abbey of Maizières and the Lords of Chagny, Montrachet (pronounced Montrachet) takes all its brightness in the XVIIth century. Nobody disputes it: what the Chardonnay makes of better on the Earth! Montrachet is also a family gathering 4 close Grand Crus: Chevalier-Montrachet, Bâtard-Montrachet, Bienvenues-Bâtard-Montrachet and Criots-Bâtard-Montrachet (AOC PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN) Grand Crus of July 31st, 1937.
Geology of the Jurassic (175 million years). Exhibition in the east and at the noon(south) between 265 and 290 meters in height (Knight), between 250 and 270 meters ( Montrachet), between 240 and 250 meters (Illegitimate child, Welcome, Criots). In Montrachet, little thick grounds on a hard limestone, crossed by a band of reddish marl. In Knight, thin and rocky grounds: light rendzines trained on marls and marly limestones. In Illegitimate child, more thick and more clayey calcareous brown grounds towards Piedmont.
