CORTONNaming Grand Cru of Côte de Beaune, in Côte-d'Or. For red wines only, this naming can be followed by the name of the climate where from results the wine. Municipalities of production: Aloxe-Corton, Ladoix-Serrigny and Pernand-Vergelesses. On the label, the naming GRAND CRU has to appear necessarily at once below the name of each of these naming in an identical size(cutting) of characters. The vast surface of the Grand Cru and the high number of climates explain the nuances noticed in the characters of these wines. In white (rare, in Vergennes, Tongues in particular), a potential of keeping from 4 to 10 years old. Clear gold with green reflections. In the mineral nuances, get married the butter, the apple in the oven, the fern, the cinnamon and the honey. Elegant and thoroughbred, supple and round, this original Chardonnay gets closer to Corton-Charlemagne. In red, Corton displays purple supported, red velvet sinks in magenta density. Ample, his bouquet expresses himself on fruity accents (blueberry, currant, kirsch) or decorate with flowers (violet), evolving towards the undergrowth, the animal, the leather, the fur, the pepper, the licorice. To the palace, it is powerful, gladly demonstrative and complicated, structured: of the lamb's lettuce and the body. Firm, frank and fat, it needs time to bloom ( 4 - 12 years). The Mountain of Corton gathers the villages of Ladoix-Serrigny, Aloxe-Corton and Pernand- Vergelesses, enter the Coast of Pierre (in the South of Côte de Nuit, where the vineyard gets involved in the stony careers of Comblanchien) and Savigny-lès-Beaune (in the North of Côte de Beaune). The vineyard if floor between 250 and 330 meters in height, training an amphitheater without the other example in the Coast. Besides Corton-Charlemagne in white, the Mountain of Corton produces Corton: “king of the good-alive” according to the expression of Camille Rodier. Recognized on July 31st, 1937, this Grand Cru declines especially in red (he can then carry the name of his climate, among 25) but he also exists in white ( little raised volume). Directed southeast / southwest (infrequent in the Coast), this hillside offers a perfect geologic cup: the Jurassic oxfordiennes coats are here between Ladoix and Meursault younger than in the rest of the Coast (145 million years). At the middle-hillside, the ground sloping gently is reddish, rocky and brown calcareous, rich in marls with strong content in potassium hydroxide. It offers to the pinot noir its full blooming (self-fulfillment). The Chardonnay ( Corton-Charlemagne) occupies the top of the hillside. Red wines essentially, vine pinot noir.
