MARGAUX

If there is effectively a commune of Margaux, of which one of the vineyards is the one of Castle Margaux, only 1st vintage vineyard of the naming, this one extends in four other communes: Soussans, Cantenac, Arsac and Labarde. The amateurs of Bordeaux like discussing differences between Margaux according to the place of the naming where they are produced, although numerous castles, including Margaux, made their wine with the grape coming from vineyards situated in more than a municipality.

Emile Peynaud, to whom we award the glory to have revolutionized the quality of Bordeaux generally and those of castle Margaux in particular, lifted a more relevant question: in what proportions the soil with its grave light, on one hand, and the efforts of the boss of chaï to obtain a wine of a given style, on the other hand, are they responsible for the elegance and for the delicacy which characterize wines of the naming?

Recent brilliant wines of Château Margaux, Micrometer and Rauzan-Séga seems to make tilt the balance towards the boss of chaï because, in spite of a more powerful aroma, these new wines certainly have no structure lighter than wines of Pauillac or Saint Julien.

However, numerous wines of the naming give an impression similar to that felt when we see a big actor in a bad day. We often explain it by an excessive return and an imperfect wine making, but I would not be amazed that even in the best equipped domain, with the most qualified staff, it is more difficult to elaborate here of vintage wines than somewhere else in the Médoc wine.

When Jean-Michel Cases acquired Contenac-Brown, it was necessary to him to improve its wine much more time than for those domains acquired in the other naming.
