VIRE-CLESSE Municipal naming of Mâconnais, in Saône-et-Loire. Created by a decree of February 26th, 1999, this naming replaces, for white wines, the former naming Mâcon-Clessé and Mâcon-Viré. This naming does not contain climates classified in Premier Cru. On the label, the mention of the name of the climate where from results the wine can be registered at once under the name Viré-Clessé. The label can also contain the mention "Vin de Mâcon" or "Great wine of Mâcon". Municipalities of production: Clessé, Laizé, Monbellet and Transferred. The shine of the pale gold illuminates its dress. Neither white gold, nor yellow gold: ash gold, without reflections straw nor golden lamé. Greenish reflections often liven up the glass. In the nose, we feast at once: the flower of hawthorn or locust tree, the bouquet of honeysuckle offered to spring, broom, and notes of citronella, white peach, mentholated or fern, verbena tea. The pine and the jam of quince appear on a fascinating vintage wine of the age. Lively and fresh, a little bit sharp and nevertheless full of curvature, the wine offers safe one keystone in white wines of Mâconnais. Sharpness and flexibility, a soft and spontaneous side. A mere nothing of nervousness does not displease him.
Recognized in 1998, baptized on one year later, Viré-Clessé is the first municipal naming stemming from remarkable countries in the AOC MÂCON-VILLAGES (PROTECTED DESIGNATION OF ORIGIN MÂCON-VILLAGES). Transferred and Clessé is two municipalities of the Southern Burgundy, between Tournus and Mâcon. The typicité of their wines being very close, we opted for a single naming. But the selection of countries was very rigorous: transferred and Clessé also produces of Mâcon, of Burgundy and of Mâcon-Villages. The naming Mâcon-Viré and Mâcon-Clessé disappeared in 2002.The vintage wine is established by two north-south coast, limited by the valleys of Bourbonne and Mouge. They are, consisted of limestones in entroques of the bajocien and of marno-calcareous strata of the oxfordien (Jurassic). Other grounds still on the bottom of slopes, are made by clays for "chailles " (pebbles of stoneware), exposed to the east and drained well. The "cray", a type of grounds calcareous mâconnais in white pebbles, meets here: the best for the Chardonnay. Height: between 200 and 440 meters.
