Cos d'Estournel
Except for a small period in the late 1990s, Cos d'Estournel is entitled to have produced an impressive array of wines in the 1980s and early 1990s. Fine wines and immediately charming, with a high proportion of Merlot in the blend.
Since 2005, Jean-Guillaume Prats of Cos d'Estournel leads with more resources and more accurately still. The wines have won in density and uprightly, with the introduction of a greater proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the final assembly. Without losing their sweetness, they are more complex and deeper. The 2007 and 2006 are absolute success. Unfortunately, prices have soared. Note that the castle is now producing, in limited quantities, a white from vines north of the Medoc. The first vintage is 2005.
